Dried Fruit v Fresh Fruit- how do they stack up? I often get asked the question if dried fruit is ok to have in place of fresh fruit. While I would recommend dried fruit over candy, I do not recommend it in place of fresh fruit.
Let’s compare: Dried fruit has ~140 calories and 26g of sugar per 1/3 cup. This small of a serving can be eaten in just a few bites. Odds are if you aren’t measuring, you are probably eating more than a serving of dried fruit, too. Fresh fruit on the other hand has ~140 calories and 20g sugar per 2 cups. As far as fiber content, dried fruit has 2.5g per serving while fresh fruit has a whopping 11g. Your best bet is to go with fresh fruit- you get a larger serving, less sugar, and more fiber in the calorie equivalent to dried fruit.
So which would you choose? Let me know in the comments below!
